At my startup, awe.sm, we use another startup called ZeroCater to cater lunch for everybody 3 days a week. Part of ZeroCater’s service is that they send you an email every day asking you to rate your lunch. They use your votes to decide whether to send you that meal again in future. Yesterday, in the middle of election fever, ZeroCater had a little downtime. So I sent them this mock-aggrieved tweet:

The reason I did so is because ZeroCater are known for being great on Twitter — our account manager, Yoshi, often sends us hilarious replies. But this time they didn’t. Not until today, when a messenger brought us six delicious cupcakes and a card, apparently signed by most of ZeroCater, all apologizing in different ways for disenfranchising me.

ZeroCater win at everything.

I’ve been sending out some impertinent tweets about Progressive Insurance lately, but I haven’t explained how they pissed me off. So I will do that here as succinctly as possible. There’s a general understanding that says, “insurance companies— oh they’re awful,” but since Progressive turned their shit hose on my late sister and my parents, I’ve learned some things that really surprised me.

I’ll try to cleave to the facts. On June 19, 2010, my sister was driving in Baltimore when her car was struck by another car and she was killed. The other driver had run a red light and hit my sister as she crossed the intersection on the green light.
